Her latest novel, Hunting The Sun (2025), is the third book in the Midwinter Dragon series.
Jean Gill was born in England to Scottish parents. Gill spent much of her life in Wales, teaching English for many years. She was the first woman to hold the post of secondary head teacher in Carmarthenshire. She later moved to France, where she pursued writing, photography and dog training.
Gill's writing covers various subjects, including fiction, poetry, cookery and dog training. She has worked with dog trainer Michel Hasbrouck to translate and publish works on dog behaviour. Her interest in dog training also influenced one of her novels. She describes her background as allowing her to "usually root for the winning team in most sporting events".
Hunting The Sun (2025) continues the story of Skarfr and Hlif, exiled Norse warriors in 12th-century Sicily. Fighting to protect their reunited family, they navigate the perils of King Roger's court, shifting alliances and the ever-present hand of fate.
The Historical Novel Society and the Booklife Prize praised the Midwinter Dragon series for its authenticity and depth.
