Richard Cullen is an English historical adventure and epic fantasy writer. He is best known for the Chronicles of the Black Lion series and the Wolf of Kings series. His debut historical novel, Oath Bound (2022), was longlisted for the Wilbur Smith Adventure Writing Prize.
Richard Cullen was born in Leeds, Yorkshire. He began writing historical adventures under his own name and epic fantasy as R.S. Ford. His work has been published by Head of Zeus, Orbit Books and Boldwood.
Oath Bound follows Styrkar, a Danish warrior seeking revenge after the Norman Conquest. The book was noted for its fast-paced narrative and vivid battle scenes. Matthew Harffy described Cullen's writing as "as sharp as the blade Styrkar wields".
