J.D. Rhoades

J.D. (Dusty) Rhoades is an American author best known for his Jack Keller mystery series and stand-alone novels. He is the author of The Devil's Right Hand (2005), Good Day in Hell (2006), and Safe and Sound (2007), the first of which was nominated for the prestigious Shamus Award for Best First P.I. Novel.

J.D. Rhoades was born and raised in North Carolina. He attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, graduating with a B.A. in Radio, Television & Motion Pictures in 1984. He later pursued a law degree, graduating from the University of North Carolina School of Law in 1989.

He has worked as a radio news reporter, a club DJ, a television cameraman, and a lawyer in a small town in North Carolina.

Unexpectedly, he became a writer in 1993 when his local newspaper, The Southern Pines Pilot, invited him to write a weekly column after years of sarcastic letters to the editor.

That column, which won him an award from the North Carolina Press Association, eventually led to his first foray into fiction. Despite initial setbacks, Rhoades succeeded with The Devil's Right Hand (2005) and its sequels.

In addition to his traditionally published works, Rhoades has embraced the world of e-publishing, releasing novels such as Lawyers, Guns and Money and Storm Surge as e-books.

J.D. Rhoades continues to write and practice law in Carthage, North Carolina.
