Anna Zaires is an American and international bestselling author of sci-fi romance and contemporary dark romance. Her books have made the New York Times and USA Today bestseller lists and have been translated into French and German.
At five, she fell in love with books when her grandmother taught her to read. Since then, she has always lived partially in a fantasy world where the only limits were those of her imagination.
After graduating from the University of Chicago with a degree in Economics, Anna spent eight years on Wall Street analyzing stocks and writing research reports.
Anna Zaires started writing in the summer of 2012. She self-published her debut book, Close Liaisons, on Amazon three months later. Her husband, Dima Zales (a science fiction and fantasy author), actively helped her with the first book.
"When we came out with our first book in the US, we enjoyed modest success. Many readers loved it, but it did not go viral or anything like that. We had the wrong cover—one that made the book look more like an urban thriller than a romance—and we knew very little about marketing or promotion.
We learned quickly, and by the time we published Close Obsession a few months later, we had much better covers. We also made the first book free to incentivize purchases of the second book. The strategy worked well. After much agonizing, we decided to take the risk, and both of us quit our job to start writing full-time," says Anna.
In 2013, she became a full-time author, pursuing her lifelong dream of writing romance novels. After that decision, the pair moved from New York City to Florida.
Anna still collaborates closely with Dima Zales on all their work.
