Struck by Lightning: The Carson Phillips Journal

I guess I was so busy trying to get people to hear me, I never thought about listening.

“Why do some people have to work so hard for the things they want and others don’t? Why are some people selfish by nature and some of us are selfish just to survive?”

Sometimes I think the worst thing you can do to someone is idolize them or make them out to be anything else but human; then you’re only giving them room to disappoint you.

But do we give people that status just so we can watch them fall?

Because, little girl, this is the real world you see, where there’s no light to shine on false identities. We didn’t destroy the world just to scare; we simply uncovered what was already there.

We are our own greatest fears.

Although she was very beautiful and bright and constantly excelled in everything she did, her parents always thought she could do better.

Adults can really suck more than teenagers sometimes.

“In what grade do we stop believing in ourselves?” I asked. “In what grade do we just stop believing, period? I mean, someone has to be a Nobel Peace Prize winner. Someone has to be a ballerina. Why not us?”

I guess there is no such thing as history; it’s all just a bunch of common perception.
