“Chocolat” by Joanne Harris was first published in the year 1999. The story revolves around the central character Vianne Rocher.
Vianne happens to be a young single mother. The story opens with her arrival with her daughter, Anouk, at the beginning of Lent in Lasquenet Sous Tannes, a French village. Her daughter, Anouk, is six year old.
In that village, she starts a chocolate shop called La Celeste Praline. The shop happens to be situated right opposite the village church.
All through the fasting season, people visit her shop. She gradually changes the live of the villagers. She seems to have a kind of magic that attracts them. She is very sympathetic to the villagers.
